Photobucket Problem

Postby Grip Fast » Thu Jul 20, 2017 11:56 am

Anyone who has embedded links on this website to photographs in the free version of Photobucket, will find they no longer appear in the thread. Instead there is a placeholder which tells you to upgrade your account (I believe to one you pay for) in order to host photos in third-party software (e.g. Boxertrix).

I've looked back at previous threads where I've done this and all photos I've linked from photobucket are no longer visible.

What's a good alternative? Even photos from my cheap & chearfiul phone are too large to upload directly to here.

I've checked a couple of other folks' posts and they are the same. Kinda spoils the history of posts on this site. Bar stewards.

That's the problem with being a skinflint jock, I won't pay for something that used to be free. Sod 'em.

EDIT: $400 per year for 3rd-party hosting!!!! Foxtrot Oscar!

I've never used Photobucket, or anything similar. I upload photos to my computer, then use http://www.picresize.com/ to resize them if they're too big for a given site. Once resized, they can be re-uploaded to your PC and then attached to a post on here. Sounds a faff, but I assume its no worse than using Photobucket.

Recently, photobucket has become more of a faff than before, now nearly unusable as the free version.

Thanks for the tip. Does picresize just reduce the definition by (presumably) reducing the pixel count? I'll try it. How do you know it's reduced sufficiently - trial and error?

I usually reduce any pic by 75% - there's a dropdown list of options - but you can 'dial in' any given size you fancy, or tell it the pics maximum allowed size in kb. Its fairly simple once you get the hang of it - it must be if I can use it! :)

You can download photo resizer's on the App Store or Google play for free, then do the necessary and upload directly using the Boxertrix image hosting, that's if like me you do most work on your phone, hope that helps

News of Botophuckit's new policy has been doing the rounds on the photographic forums recently and been panned pretty much universally. I stopped using it about 3 years ago (its image quality was marginal anyway) and have used Flickr ever since. Excellent platform, simple to use and free.

I should have stopped using it years ago... Recently started using Flickr , seems excellent so far.

For a cheap (free) alternative, put your photo's into a private album on Facebook (so anyone on there can't see them, and they don't appear in your timeline), and then link to them on here. Remember to re-size them before uploading otherwise they'll be too big for the forum.

In true Blue Peter fashion, here's one I did earlier -

The ST was my first BMW, I bought the one in the photo a few years ago, and sold it earlier this year, it was a lovely bike, but I hardly rode it.
