K&N Oil Filters Failing

Have you guys heard about the catastrophic failure of some K&N oil filters?

I ordered one for my other bike (Tiger 800) a couple of days ago, and received the email that it's on it's way about 5 minutes before reading a thread about folks who have had them fail and dump oil out. It seems that the nut that is brazed on for handy tightening/removal is the problem. The brazing may be damaging the can and after some time, the can springs a leak.

Discussions on some forums would indicate that this problem goes beyond the those covered by the recall.

I've heard tales of that nut breaking clean off, leaving no way to remove the remnants of the filter on a R11S as the filter is recessed
One of the reasons that I always stick to OE consumables.

I have used them on my R1150R for the last couple of years - on the R1150R the filter is recessed up into the motor so doesn't stick out of the bottom to get caught - as regard to the nut coming off - oil filters should only be tightened gently and not 'swung on', which I suspect is the issue with the accounts of them being an issue.

Just my opinion!

I agree with that. In the past on recessed filters I have had to secure the removal cap/tool with self tappers to get the blighter out. I do not buy k and n filters. Too expensive if you change filter every year regardless of mileage. (like lots of us do.)
