Folks,

Just had the terribly sad news, from Bev's Facebook feed, that Mick Finch passed away last night after his year-long battle with Cancer.

I've met many great people over many years of motorcycling, and Mick was definitely one of the best. A bloody good photographer too.

Sleep well, my friend.

Truly sad news,
Glad I had the chance to meet up with him again just a few weeks ago at Jacks Café.

Peter.

Although I have never met him, my thoughts are with his family and friends.

Helena - Mick's daughter - has been in touch with me with details of her dad's funeral. It's to be held at Bretby Crem on wednesday 13th December at 10.30 am.

We realise it's a bit of a long-shot but she wondered if there was any chance of having a couple of folk on bikes to escort the cortege on the day. With this being in the middle of the week it's probably not going to be easy but if someone reasonably local could make it, it would be appreciated immensely.

Thanks all.

Hi all.

It is very sad news. Thanks for posting up the information, had just signed in to do the very same. I've worked with Mick for many years and knock around with his Son John. I will formally introduce myself in another thread, but I'm the guy who has been fortunate enough to have his R1100S and fully intend to keep it looking just as good if not better in his name. When he offered it to me, I naturally couldn't resist. It will mean an awful lot to me. Riding the bike from his house with him watching me go was one of the most difficult things I've had to do, but no doubt more difficult for him.
He was a very genuine bloke, a fantastic dad to his young'uns and a great husband to Bev.
My wife has known him for longer than myself, so naturally we'll both be attending the funeral.

Weather permitting I'd like to attend on the bike along with anyone else that may be going. Feel free to PM me to arrange anything prior.

Oh and Gromit, sorry do you mean Tuesday 12th or Wednesday 13th December?

Sincere apologies, I meant the weds (13th). I'm hopeless with dates! I'll amend my previous post to alleviate any confusion.

Would really like to have got to Mick's funeral (although I have no bike to ride, sadly) but our Christmas overtime has started that week and I've had to beg/steal/borrow the thursday off to attend another friend's funeral.

I was very sad to hear this sad news, but very pleased I was able to take Mick to his final Boxertrix meet at Jack`s Cafe just a few weeks ago.As everyone has said Mick was a wonderful friend and always the same happy chap even when he was so ill.Chris and June have asked me to pass on their condolences and say how pleased they were to have spent precious time with Mick at Jack`s cafe.I have attached a message from Bev & family.

Mick's funeral will be held in the Caernavon Chapel, Bretby Crematorium on Wednesday 13th December, 10.30am. Afterwards we will be celebrating his life at the Railway Inn, Moira.
Family flowers only please. Mick requested that donations be made to Ashby Canal Trust in lieu of flowers. He was an active member of the group for many years, and it's work close to his heart. We have set up a page where you can donate if you wish. (link below)
We would like to extend our thanks and appreciation for everyone's kind words and thoughts today. It's so comforting to know that so many were so fond of him.

Those who knew Mick, knew one of his passions was time with Mick being involved in the restoration of the Ashby Canal. He has asked as part of his final wishes for any donations to go…

Hi there, this is Helena, one of Mick’s daughters. Thank you for the kind words about my Dad. It’s so lovely to know that so many people thought so well of him.

Dad passed peacefully at home surrounded by his closest family.

We would love for you all to join us if possible, and if his cortège could be followed by a few bikes that would be amazing - although I appreciate it's not a great time of year for bikes.

Helena

Where and when would the cortege be leaving from?
