VIN Checker - http://bimmer.work/

Postby kfrogzx7 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 7:56 pm

When I check my bikes oe spec on bimmer ( http://bimmer.work/ ) it lists towards the bottom of the page "Option 779 sa Wide Tyre" , does this mean it's got the 5.50" rear rim ?
It's just that I'm about to order new tyres and my local shop ( who now have the loose whls in their workshop ) say that I can fit 180/55 to my rims and I was under the impression that I had 5.00 rims.

Isn't the rim width visibly marked on the wheel itself? Or did I imagine that?! :?

I've just looked at some pics - the rim width is marked on the wheel, on the side that faces the hub.

I've never noticed it marked on the rim, but now the rims are at the shop I can't look. Where on the wheel do you think it might be, on the rim or on the hub or .. ?

All the other "options" listed on Bimmer seem to match my bikes spec so I can only think that I have the 5.50 rim after all. BM wouldn't list / fit a wider option tyre ( ie a 180/55 ) on a 5.00 rim would they ?

'Option 779' is shown on the parts fiche as the 5.5" wheel. The width marking is here - 5" on this one....

Great thanks Pete, looks as though I can go for some sticky rubber. I'll get the shop to check the markings on the spoke before I make a decision.
Thanks, this board is fantastic :D

My S came from Cannon, Braintree originally so now, out of interest, I'll get a detailed printout from them sometime about it and it's full history. I'm a bit embarrassed not to have known it had the option rear whl after over 3 yrs of ownership, but nowhere in the Cannon folder , Rider Manual or Maintenance Instruction book does it refer to the 5.50 rim. I'd always assumed that the previous owner had fitted a oversized ( 180 ) tyre and that this explained the slow steering ... now I know it's an inherent characteristic :( :( :(
