Shocked

Postby slparry » Thu Feb 22, 2018 7:51 am

So last night I was driving home from work on the A483 dual carriageway in heavy traffic, when I was aware there was a van with one low beam out up my chuff there was nowhere to go, traffic was flowing at 70 I was keeping the 2 second rule distance from the car in front in the outside lane.

Tapped my brake and he backed off. 5 miles further on as I indicated to turn off he came right behind me flashing his headlights, at this point I was worried there maybe something wrong with my car so pulled over partly onto the verge on the sliproad. Van comes behind me, lights on full, I get out the car to meet a left hook that floored me. By the sound of the accent he sounded Irish traveller, a very tall, gym ripped late 20's early 30's lad, once on the floor I got a few kicks, not sure if his mate joined in too.

After a few kicks and punches they jumped back in the van, crossed the hatchings and rejoined the a483.

I took a note of their number long enough to repeat it to the police whom I called when I got back into the car. They said an officer would come to my home to take further details, waited until 10pm and no one turned up.

My daughter dragged me to hospital, despite my misgivings about A&E nowadays, triage nurse said they wanted to check me out further but warned there was a long wait, I said "what 4 or 5 hours" she said no much longer than that so I guess at least 6 to 8 hours, so I went home.

Feeling very sore and vulnerable today.

Bloody hell Steve, that's awful - glad you're sort-of OK though, and here to tell us about it, it could have been a lot worse. I'd give serious consideration to a re-visit to A&E, especially after a bang to the head, better safe than sorry.

****ing scrote pikeys, the law doesn't apply to them, no respect for anyone, horrible people....and they call it their 'culture', it really, really boils my piss. Usually, their vehicles are registered to a proper bricks-and-mortar address, so there's a chance the police - and shame on them for not turning out last night - can trace an owner....the concern is their determination, or lack of it, to follow it through.

I hope they track the bastards down, I really do, but more importantly, get checked out by your doc at least.

Ouch. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery, both physically and mentally from that Steve. Hopefully the Police make some progress in tracking them down, but their lack of response so far is not very encouraging.

All the best,

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

I am sad to hear of this assault on you Steve.

I wonder if the police will follow up.

You have a right to know what they have done, so in South Africa , we asked folk to write a signed for letter to the station commander of the station you reported this to , asking for the result .

Because it is signed for , they are duty bound to reply to you .

Pursue the matter, next time he may kill some poor person , he really needs to be locked up.

I hope you feel better soon .

That's a shocker. Hope you get well soon and as the others have said, get checked out.

What utter bas****ds, have had some run ins with these people through work (fly tipping etc) and they are scum. Totally agree with Pete.

That is outragous!
Bar stewards!

I dont know what can happen from here
Another vote that you get back to A&E and get checked out.
Maybe a wait but better than nothing. As well, it will add credence to a police file.
If you dont (go to A&E) then the police may not take you / this incident as seriously.

Another thought, if these people did it this time, they may do it again.
Next time it might be the wrong person / worse / leave some evidence behind and instead of it being a one off event, links are made and then there are more charges laid etc

Steve, that's outrageous. As others have said make sure you're OK. The police need to follow up because if they are prepared to do that to you then who knows what else they will do.

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Glad that you're ok Steve (sort of) that is a horrible thing to happen to you.
if you don't go to A&E do you have an NHS walk in centre near you? you will be seen by a nurse specialist and usually much quicker.
And if the police don't come to you, then you go to them and make a complaint against the driver. Where there any witnesses?
There was a similar tale told on another forum, he had a witness, and the police traced the culprit and it was brought to court, the culprit was found guilty, had previous for GBH and was sent down, he also had to pay a substantial sum in compensation to the injured party.
I have been looking for the thread to send you but I can't find it just now.

Terrible news Steve.
Agree with trying the walk-in centres.
Similar thing happened to my dad, but that was back in the 80s when there were lots of police doing 'proper' police work. They were on the case straight away and the person was caught and prosecuted.
Nowadays I avoid going out Friday/Saturday nights, always keep the car door locked, always try to leave an 'escape gap' when in queueing traffic, etc. It's become the wild west around here.
Get yourself looked at and get on the backs of the local force if they don't do anything.

Now then slparry

Sorry to read your tale and what happened to you, that's a nightmare, hope you make a full recovery physically and as someone else said, mentally, from this. Fingers crossed the Police do contact you but don't wait, chase them up and hopefully they will find the B#astards.

Probably a good idea for us all not to 'brake check' vehicles following behind.

Steve, crap service from the police - broken promises do not inspire confidence.

This advice is from professional experience.

Get a pen and paper and write down a narrative of your recollections of the event inclusion a full description of the offender , if you are any good at sketching draw any part of the incident that you can. This way you all record the incident at the earliest opportunity. Trouble is every time you run it over in your mind you will change details through a process called rehearsal. You will also start to question your own recall through memory distrust syndrome.
I would ask the police to get local radio to issue an appeal at the same time of the incident on the 7 day anniversary - good chance that people driving along the same road who were there last week may have their memory jogged .

Good luck -

Andy

That is shocking in all respects, Steve - the attack, police reaction (lack of) and expected A&E wait. I hope you get over the physical and mental trauma quickly.

Unless there are blues and twos, I'm not sure I would stop for another vehicle now.
