A spot of advice please...

Hi all, I'm looking at a 1998 R1100s full service history with 58000 on the clock. My question is, could it be getting near a new clutch time? I know it depends on how its been ridden. It looks and reads like a good one. Its at the top end of my budget so... do I hang on to my monies a bit longer and see what the winter brings forth or risk it for a biscuit.

Thoughts please, regards Marsh

All depends how it has been ridden as you say
do the usual tests (brakes on, try to pull away - if it doesnt slip - clutch is good at that time)
I changed the clutch assembly on my 2001 1150GS with about 150,000km / 85,000 miles and it wa only about 50% used
(I changed it because I was going on a long trip, thought it needed it and when I had got that far in to doing it, kept going)

it depends on the previous owner /s and oil leaks , slave cylinder leaks . My ,99 bike has 120k plus miles on original clutch .

Many thanks, for your input, you are both 100% right of course maybe I'm just panicking a bit at the thought of a new clutch. Must say I am very impressed with 120k on the original clutch, a credit to your riding.

Anyhow thanks once again, regards Marsh

Could be due for replacement of paralever bearings.

Thanks Mitch, fair point. Still not decided about the bike :( Might be worth the wait to see what the winter clear-out brings to the market.
