Silencer Cone up styling.

Postby boxerscott » Sun Sep 06, 2020 10:24 am

Hey up, Am nurturing an idea that instinctively thinking may not set me back a loada dosh. Can anyone point me in the direction of a suitable outfit that takes on small chrome plating jobs for the auto market?

Chris, from when I was wanting to restore the SR500, I looked at places for chrome work. It will probably be expensive to to get any chrome plating done. The good ones, for obvious reasons, have a long wait time. Check the back of Classic Motorcycle Mechanics - IIRC, there's a place in Hull that is highly recommended and I think I have the number of a chap in Carlisle that does it. I'll see if I can dig it out and forward it on to you. I think anything exhaust related is often reluctantly taken on because of acid (I think) contamination at the start of the process

Google: Chrome platers (based on location of Jedburgh) - it shows one in Carlisle.
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

Hi Chris,
My former neighbor worked at QualityChrome.co.uk in Hull. From what I saw I think there pretty good.

Planning on chroming your tank? Why not have it wrapped in a chrome film? Similar end result, less cost (probably...) and fully reversible if it looks like a dog's dinner.
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Derby Plating was who I and many others I know used when restoring chrome plating on classic cars.
I can recommend them, but they are probably the most expensive in the country.
Make sure ther are no carbon deposits on the inside of the pipe when you hand it over to any plater - they will either refuse the job, or charge you for cleaning it properly. They don't like their chemicals contaminated with impurities.
