Vehicle Tax Grumble

Postby Grip Fast » Tue Sep 01, 2020 8:36 am

I haven't ridden the bikes much this year due to the 'C' word and lockdown, so first the R1200S went on SORN for a while, then Tiger 800 joined it. As lockdown eased, I re-taxed the Beemer, and this morning, I've re-taxed the 800. To tax the 800 for a year is £3 more than to tax my car + my wife's car + my daughters car (she taxes her own, but that's not the point), all of which have engines bigger than 800cc, and get used a lot more.

Over three times more than my car!!! Time there was a fairer balance, but I suppose if I paid less for the bike, I'd pay more for the car.

And breath - at least, for the moment, we're ok. Mustn't grumble.

Which song from 1968 has the lines - "How's your Bert's lumbago?" "Oh, mustn't grumble."

Lazy Sunday Afternoon, written by Steve Marriot

Only know that because “Thunder” cover it, and on their live album - tell you the origin.
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

I know what your saying' & I don't want to but I would pay more than I do to TAX my bikes, when i get soooo much pleasure from even just a ride round the block to get rid of the water in my brakes after washing her :D But if it was road tax free I'd be happier

My X3 apparently kills polar bears so is £540 per year .... then my Boxercup, F800GS, K1, R80RS and RT weigh in at £93 each (all are more because of course I elect to pay monthly) I'd expect billiard table smooth roads not the moon crater strewn stuff we negotiate daily :D

That's interesting Steve, because my US motorhome (5.5 tons weight and 7.5 litre V8 non turbo diesel) is only £270 and taxed as Private Light Goods.
Go figure the logic in that. Maybe because people only use them for a few weekends a year it kills less Polar bears!
