Swapped out the standard touring case lids for city lids yesterday. Much prefer the slimmer profile

I had a pair of these on mine - they really do make a difference.

That generation of panniers were superb. The modern BMW panniers are much less versatile, and much less resilient to day to day use with a smooth paint finish and light colours..
When the Special escort group bought R1200RS as a fleet bike they literally cut the panniers to pieces and rivted the lids back on to a cut down base to create a slimmer profile for filtering - true story.

I've only ever used the city lids on the panniers for my R11S and the standard lids stayed in the garage.
Does make packing enough clothes for a long trip a challenge though.

IMHO. more aftermarket BS. Is there irony going here? I`m feeling racy today .. put my city lids on, leave my AdV MaN bike meals on wheels panniers at home ? Guys.. pack light use one pannier, leave your expansive pumps and paraphernalia at home with the Carer.

Instead of attaching the lids with pop rivets as per standard I've used small allen bolts, so that if I feel the need to put the larger lids on I can swap them in 10 mins or so.

To be honest any really long trip would be on the RT anyway, and any medium trips would be RT or 8GS. The 11S would only be used for weekend trips nowadays I guess.

And one day I'll take the R80RS on a longer trip seeing as it's almost my lowest mileage bike now!

Pack light, save the planet , ( cough) no matter the choices you have in the garage. We only carry what can go in hand luggage when we fly anywhere, that way our luggage is never misplaced.

It makes sense. No ?

IIRC Vines actually did that job for me when I bought my first Rockster and had the city lids included in the order. Unfortunately I don't have those panniers (or the lids) any more..... no idea what happened to them tbh.
