Nasty Thought.

Postby bikemad99 » Mon Jan 16, 2006 12:38 pm

Had a bad moment on the A1 in Yorkshire last week.Fortunately at work in the Audi. Travelling in a contraflow through road works when some prat in the opposite carriagway ploughed into the line of cones sending them cartwheeling over the central barrier into our lane . The car in front of me hit most of them, with only one bouncing off my front nearside headlight. These cones had those yellow warning lights on the top, so you can imagine were capable of serious damage. My point is,that in future, when on the bike in a similar situation I will be in the nearside lane in amongst the trucks and caravans, it could be safer. What do you lot think?

Yep often thought about that lane discipline.

p.s. I bet those cones hurt if you clip one with your pot/shin - especially the ones stuck in the ground

I twatted (Copyright: Jason) a load of cones whilst in France a few years ago. Was filtering through some roadworks on the Autoroute near Metz - of course the Frenchie drivers were all doing the usual making room for bikes, but the S, with its panniers fitted, did a very good job of knocking down 'more than 1 or 2' cones as I passed through the gap the cars had made.

First thought was 'what's that vibration coming from the rear wheel?' Then, on looking in the mirrors, there was coneage carnage across the carriageway.

Not really embarrassing.

I have also clipped the odd cone with the offside pannier. They take on a different threat when coming at you from 2 o-clock out of the sun at what seemed like 50+ mph.Needless to say I was pleased to be in a nice solid tin box.
