Frenchyfying an R1100ss

Postby leitzscope » Thu Nov 15, 2007 6:05 pm

Has anyone had experience of converting an R1100s or ss to French plates/registration. I've done it to a car with a bit of hassle (needs no tax now, French MOT every two years!)
I really need to know about headlamp conversion - is it bulbs, headlight or something more drastic?
I saw a red R1100 in Eguzon last year with UK plates, anyone here?

Hi Leitzscope,
I'm in the process of trying to re-register my 1100S in France at the moment. The headlight can be adjusted to suit driving on the left or the right, I did mine last weekend. Sounds like a doddle of a job in the owners manual :? The 3 screws you need to access are a pig to get at and were possibly put in with loctite at the factory.

As for re-registering, my bike was knocked back at the Prefecture as their computer didn't like some of the numbers on the Certificate of Conformity

I have been in touch with BMW France and hopefully they will come up trumps in the very near future

Where abouts are you?
I'll keep you posted,
Rob

Rob's correct - the three locating screws for the headlights are a bitch to get at, and I think I left the top one loose so that I could manage it easier next time (if I bother).

Al :D
If I am ever on life support - Unplug me......
Then plug me back in..........

See if that works .....

Hi Rob

I'm near Saint Beniot du Sault about 300 miles from you. I'm retired and spend half my time in each country. It makes sense to have a tax free bike and car!
I have a little Escort cabriolet in France, Ford Paris charged me over 100 Euros just for the piece of paper that showed they had sold escorts in France!
Good news about the adjustable headlight, stupid of me not to have realised. Thanks for the info. I'm riding mine over at Christmas to start proceedings.

Thanks again, Ray

The problem with the C of C is that the prefecture is not reading the correct number. The headlight is easy, and the speedo will need to be changed if you go through BMW France.
This is the end result:

Thanks madman. I read your blog - those microlight prices are dearer than hiring an airways equipped lightplane!

Just wait for Flash to come along and impart some advice on re-registering your bike in France.....

Paul
You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.

Why? Does Flash work in the prefecture?

Not as far as I am aware, unless that is one of his "new for 2007" activities
