Lidl are getting a load of bike gear in again! for those of us who are either tight or skint.

not sure a £35 quid helmet is going to be ACU approved though ;)

Helmets sold in the UK have to pass some sort of approval don't they?

I just read a test of this Lidl gear in a Dutch magazine. In short:

The Helmet:
- it does not have the proper ECE approval tags in/on the helmet and visor
- it has a sticker saying it is tested by the TuV .... on the release of noxious fumes in case of scalding :?
- look for yourself: http://www.tuvdotcom.com/pi/web/index.xml?LanguageChanged=en-us&strUrlId=&strUserId=
- so who did perform the ECE-22.05 tests? Lidl didn't want to reply..
- the magazine did perform a simplified ECE test (only at 20 degrees, not at minus 20 or plus 50) and it did pass all the test. However it was severely damaged: cracked chinpiece, loosened inner lining, penetrated vizor ... but all within ECE limits

The gloves:
- not waterproof but OK for not too cold circumstances

The boots:
- not waterproof
- to much foam in the lining (so it will feel like a fit but not too long)
- zippers are of poor quality and failed during the test

The rainsuit:
- looks OK
- not waterproof: rain comes in in jacket and pants

The jack:
- waterproof
- scotchlite reflection and CE marked protectors, no back protecter but pocket is there
- plenty of pockets and smart details
- poor quality storm collar (velcro came off after two days)
- this piece is recommended !

The intercom:
- totally useless: can't put on a helmet while wearing the earphone ...

last year I bought the pants. After ~12 months of commuting, they have yet to leak, all zips intact :!:
£40 :) No points for style, but they've kept me dry.

To me, the kit appear fine for the budget commuter.

Shhhhhhh,.. the Lidl Bike Sale is supposed to be a big secret, .... how do you think we're getting around the world on £20 a day?. I'll be in the early morning queue @ Chelmsford for a pair of 'Bike 2 Bike' radios. Cheap, Cheerful and probably Crap, .... but hey ho, ... it's the 'Cheap' part that counts.

Bought a couple of bike covers £9.00 each from a similar event at Aldi a couple of years ago they have lasted longer than the £45 hi tec solar reflective breathable one from Motrax which frazzled just looking at my exhaust pipe.. Judge for yourself buy a £35.00 lidl lid and ask yourself is that Arai really worth £350.00  ??
Fiat Panda.
Fiat Scudo (with speedblock, pipe carrier, reversing sensors, reversing camera, tow bar, some new rust and Fake Plumber logo)
