High mile 1200S?

Postby Scuzzlebutt » Sun Mar 30, 2008 8:44 am

I had a run on a 12k mile 1200S yesterday, which is the first one I've been on. The gearbox was much slicker than I'd expected and the rest of seemed fine as you'd expect.

Has anyone got high miles on their 1200S? I'd be interested to see how well they are standing up both mechanically and in terms of overall finish.

Cheers

Got 14k miles on mine. No problems so far. Finishing is better then on my former '99 R1100S; no corroding bolts, paint is still holding even after riding through 'winter' (rather mild one, but still lots of salt on the road).

Faultless performance up to now.

I'd agree with this. BMW seem to have thought a bit more about the exposed bits than they did with the R1100S. Mine has only done about 8500 though.

Done over 15k on mine and no problems at all except corrosion on front engine cover as most of them do. Being fixed on next service under warranty. Can't praise the bike enough. :P

Just completed 10,000 on mine.

Front end is holding up better around bottom of folks.

Engine cases are losing paint around bolts and immediately behind back wheel.

Other than that, no problems over the last 18 months of constant use, including track day and trip to France.
