Setup for y-piece, Lennies intake & K&N?

Postby tomodan » Thu Feb 14, 2013 11:51 pm

Hope this hasn't been asked before, tried a search & couldn't see an answer so......

My 1100s has a Lennies carbon intake & K&N filter and I want to add the Y piece I have just got and wondered if there is any setup I need to do.

The lennies & K&N were on when I got it and I dont know if anything else has been done.

There is a short extension cable on the airbox sensor & I assume this is some sort of "tweak" but dont know what it does?

Any help of advice welcome!

Cheers

Tom

Hi Tom, the cable on top of the airbox may be an accelerator module, it cons the ecu into thinking that the air temperature is lower than it really is and puts in more fuel, this helps with surging and also smooths out acceleration, I have one fitted and have noticed an improvment but when it is colder(like now) I have found fuel consumption drops quite bit, not so much in the summer. I also have a lennies, K&n, y piece and laser end cans all fitted by the dealer so presume the laser chip was set up to match.
Many more on here more knowledgeable than me who I am sure will be able to expand on this.

Hi
You should be good to go. Adding the y piece will be another piece of the jigsaw. I would do a plug chop just to make sure the mixture is ok. As Al has said ,sounds like you have a fuel mod fitted in form of a air temp spoofer.

As Gus said you should be good to go the 1100's seem to be pretty much suck it and see some mods work better on some bikes than others but all will benefit from dumping the emmisions rubbish the short cable is probably this http://www.sol2.be/Performance/ENG/Home/index.html and well worth having with the other mods i have done i had to disconnect it during this cold weather but i would not be without it in the warmer weather

I'll be asking the same sort of questions too - got the y piece and techlusion which I think was set up for the set up which I hope to have. Just need to get induct and sprockets. May be a while tho as I continue to live on Aldi beans while I save for a GS

And don't forget to fit the GS1100 intake tubes if you want to put a big finish on the job.

setup for...

Great that you already have a Lennies and looking for Y-piece - however:

#1 the K&N replacement filter is similar in size to the original, and you can cheaply improve on that, to get a solid improvement. Search here for 'Val Singleton' a/f mod which has been a massive boost for my S. Note you can't do this AND use GS airbox tubes, as they occupy the same space.

#2 check out Lennies 'Rocket Sprockets' -also serach here, which are the other major component for a free breathing S Happy to share photos or show you if you ride over this way

Do it all and you'll never look back!

I agree, Rocket Sprockets along with the induct are definately two of the best mods you can make, after the y-piece mod and filtre.
have fun!

True you cant have the Val singleton filter AND GS tubes.

I removed the Large Val Singleton filter and refitted the paper filter when I fitted the GS tubes.

Which is best???????

I have a K&N filter for the Val Singlton conversion free to a good home if you want it.

Cheers Mike.

I still have my plans for before/after dyno tests but the Black Dog has been at me for several weeks.

Hi
Maybe you two should wind your necks in bit before spouting its the best thing since sliced bread for the s!!
This mod may not be for everyone.
As has been stated before, show some before and after results and let owners decide what may or may not be the best for them.

Wind my neck in??? Ahhhh hahahahah haha. Never. :toothy10:

It's not as if I/we are trying to flog some expensive doodad that irreversibly changes the bike. The change is cheap, easy and reversible.

I did it after a beemer riding mate told me about this:

http://www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/R11pwmod.shtml

When I saw the numbers I was off like a rat up a drainpipe.

Unlike some mods where you have to sort of squint while you're feeling for any slight impovement, this change will have you  after 100 yards. No jest. You don't need a dyno to know this works. I'm doing the dyno runs only for the sake of completeness (and because Lennie is also v.interested).

So I told you fellas about it and Mike B. tried it. Same  reaction.

The GS tubes cost abt 30 quid from Motorworks and are held in place by four PK screws. Closest thing ever to free HP.

OK - fun bet: 50 quid ... wait ... make that 30 quid (crap exchange rate) to a skeptic (not mentioning any names) who makes the change and can honestly say they're disappointed with the result.

:D

I dont need dyno figures!

I simply said I have a Large K&N filter for free if anyone wants it, because it wont be going back into my bike.
