Loads of questions

Postby Toddy » Sun Aug 06, 2006 4:00 pm

Hello, Wonder if I can ask for some ideas?

Just bought a stunning red '03 R1100S and am wondering where best to buy the following;

Oil Cooler Grill
I've found one at Wunderlich but at £92 it's a joke. Any other source?

Power socket
I see BMW in the US have them at $49 and am wondering if anyone sells them here?

Clear indicator lenses, any ideas?

And I need to mount a 1" Ram ball to take a Garmin GPS. Any ideas on what Ram bit to buy and where to mount it? The US RAM site suggests a RAM-B-252U but I'm stuck for a location for it.

Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave & welcome to the group,
Not sure where yo will find a grill allthough some have made there own but Motorworks and Nippy Normans should be able to supply most other bits you require.

Regards Peter.

Oil cooler grille; expanded aluminium mesh, cut to fit, sprayed black. Cost, about £1.00. I read someone in Germany bought a mesh bicycle shopping basket for about 5 Euro and chopped it to fit. Look around in the company office, lots of ideas to convert items there!

Power socket from the local BMW stealer for not much money and fits no problem.
Clear lenses Motorworks or Motobins, but you need orange bulbs too.

look on the above site under electrical accessories - just as good and a quarter of the cost.

Thanks folks for your help.

Thought I'd cracked it by finding HORNIG at

http://www.motorradzubehoer-hornig.de/? ... b5ae23af8e

and ordered;

Carbon dash pad, Oil cooler grill, Keyholder, Extra plug, Paint protector on a good web site but had to call a halt when they invoiced me 40 euros for delivery..........................am trying to negotiate.

Wonder if anyone in the UK stocks this stuff.

Dave

Andrew S sourced oil cooler grilles from the US, they were nothing like as expensive as the Wunderlich one :). I'm sure he'll be along in a while with details.
I made something similar when I had a 955i Daytona from the mesh you get from Halfords for glass fibre repair - £2 a sheet. :lol:

Cheers

My fault, :roll: I'd entered the wrong country and the carriage charge is now only 12.93 euro.

Hi Toddy,

Well Ian was right, I have come along, but with bad news as the grill I sourced in the US is no longer made by the seller.

Toddy,
As Oyster says:

Bought the expanded mesh from the local DIY merchants, except I didn't spray black!:

Hornig only took a week to deliver everything although I did get the BMW socket as it has a point to connect the wiring already on the bike and a nice wee bracket to attach it. You were right about the Oil Coller Grill from B & Q as it is so simple. Thanks for your help!! :)

used a ram ball attached to a clamp that I attached to the ignition barrel. Came from "gps warehouse". Have used it for 18 months now and am happy. I did wrap some duct tape arond the clamp brackets before attaching to hold it more snugly. If you search the posts you should find the pic that I posted,

Got my Garmin mounted to a ram-ball fitted to a replacement clutch cover
from CycleGadgets.com in the States. Cost $85 plus the shipping and took about 2 minutes to fit, used with a short arm it works for me. One slight downside is that it just brushes the inside of the screen on full right lock, that's with the high bar/screen combo on my bike.
There's some photos of this setup on here somewhere as well, 'cos that's were I got the idea from.
