To bring this sorry saga to an end I did finally get an answer from BMW .

Thank you for your e-mail.
BMW R 1100 S has only been produced with an engine with 1.085 ccm ex factory. The engine with 1.130 ccm has only been used at the R 1150 models. For this reason we are not able to confirm the information given to you by BMW UK.
Kind Regards,
Steffen Kraft

So, as stated quite correctly by many posters above, my (and many other) V5s are wrong but what really irritates me is that, having gone to the trouble of checking, BMW Motorrad UK gave me written but wrong information and because of this (as I do try to do things correctly if I can) insured the bike as having 1130cc which being non standard cost me more than necessary.

Anyway, regards to all the posters and the paint is now dry.

It might be dry, but more importantly, what colour is it? :D

I disagree. She didn't go the trouble of checking - at least not properly. It sounds like she's checked the UK system that had the incorrect info in the first place!

David,

Right, paying too much to insure is damn annoying - especially when you took the trouble to declare what you thought was right - strong case for refund form any reasonable insurance company. The paradox is you are now possibly not covered - dooh !

And, the paint is white. Except its not dry, as for some weird reason the undercoat reacted with the door or topcoat and peeled off, so we are now re-painting ( divine intervention some would say)

No. I am still covered. All the brokers refused because their system only showed (correctly) 1085cc so I went directly to insurance companies where they make their own decisions and ended up with LV. They band machines into capacity groups, in this case 1050 cc to 1150 cc so on that basis I am still in the correct band.

It did rather irritate me having gone to all that trouble so I wrote to Motorrad UK expressing that and asking if they plan to refund the £50 difference. I won't hold my breath but you never know!

The bore diameter is also casted in the cylinder, the 1100 says Diam 99 and the 1150 has Diam 102 so i am told.

Seems I had misjudged Motorrad.

I got back a nice letter apologising & saying their database had been wrong but would now be updated and they would refund me the extra costs I'd incurred due to their incorrect information.

Well done them.
