Okay,

My problem has been diagnosed and sorted. Basically it comes down to the throttles being out of tune. So throttles have been re-balanced and idle cable adjusted. Basically I don't think that they did a good job at the last 6k service. Also they reckon that the mini coils (those littleblack boxes by the throttle bodies) are also a bit suspect so they are replacing those too just in case. Don't know if that might be Ricey's problem?

Haven't ridden the bike yet as I'm not picking it up until tomorrow (Thurs).

Vines diagnosed it as a duff coil and re-balanced it as well. (all under warranty. :D)

Picked it up this morning and it was fine. :)

Aha!!!

You see BM coils are only allowed a certain number of firings per 20,000 miles. If one exceeds this, the coil shuts down due to <quickly thumbs through the 1268 pages of the BMW Club's manual of how to ride a Boxer> 'over-enthusiastic use of the tachometer via the action of the right hand on the throttle grip'.

Seriously - never known a BM coil to go u/s.

hmmm - well - they replaced it and it works fine now - so there must be something in it... ;)

BTW - would having PIAA lights on along with the main beam, grips on maximum heat, and 2 heated vests plugged in do damage???

Must be something in it as mine was exactly the same.
