ABS dash bulb removal

ABS dash bulb removal

Hi all

Looking for some advise, now that I have removed the servo and ABS from my 1100 how can I remover the abs light in dash. Can anybody who has removed the bulb tell me if it is a bayonet fitting or screw fitting etc. and is access juts from behind instrument panel or does the instruments need to be dismantled. Just removal would look a little better than sticky tape over the dash light,

Are you ready?
To access that bulb, first you remove the seat cowl at the other end of the damn bike.
Then the seat, the side panels, the mirrors, the screen.
Then the front fairing.
Then the headlight.

In fact just take the entire bike to bits.
Why not take your mate's bike to bits too whilst you're at it. Hey, just buy a few more bikes and take them to bits too.

To to sure how taking another bike apart will help, but thanks for the good advise. I do already have front faring off with easy accses to back of instrument panel, i just don't know how bulb is held in place

Sorry,
About six hours into the job, you'll have completely removed the instrument cluster from the bike. Take this to bits (just eighty seven screws holding it together) and the bulbs are inside. Can't remember which sort they are, I've never changed one - I just did all this when I added a alarm light to the unused ABS light on my panel & I remember thinking what an unbelievable amount of work would be involved should a bulb ever need replacing..

Don't forget to tighten the seal cowl screws when it's all back together...

I thought you were taking the pi55
six hours to change a bulb it's BMW taking the pi55
Can't you just take out the instrument cluster mine seems to fall out twice a mile anyway

Yep loosing the seat cowl is easily done. Thanks for confirming I have to split the instrument cowel, I look into that . Save me from pulling the wires from behind, and bu**ering up the unit

Do you have a wire running from the abs unit to the console then a quick snip and the job should be done

Yep, thought about just cutting the wire, but felt a bit cowboyish. But may end up doing that, but more happy with plaster,

The problem will be finding the right wire to cut or would you ba able to disconect the wireing[spelin] from a block connector just unplug, or would this light up another warning lamp

Yep that helps a lot, it's the rubber housing that pulls out.

I have put fairings back on now, but next time it comes off I will be able to sort out the light.

Even phoned up my local BMW shop and they couldn't advise me how to remove bulb

Add a small smear of Vasaline around the hole before insertion and you'll have no complaints next time you're taking it out and putting it back in. :wink:
