Hi All.

Just posted this reply in the 'new trixters' section but thought I should post here as well:

Intake runners you have me interested! do you mean the gs intake rubber hoses from the air box to the injector bodies?
If so i have a feeling they won't fit [shame as it was something i have looked into]
Hope this help's Dai

Dai - I've just returned from a 100 mile loop around some favourite mountain roads - first time out with the new choobs:

All I can say is WOW !!! What a transformation. Different bike.

I'll go into more detail later when I find where to post pics, but the GS runners can be fitted very easily and you'd never know to look at the bike.

Power delivery: Engine will trickle down smoothly to <2000 rpm, then begins noticeable acceleration passing 2500, and once past 3000 drives strongly to 7000, with a bags of torque from 3500 to 6000. No surging.

On deceleration the engine braking is smooth a la japanese fours, meaning that when rolling into/accelerating out of switchback and hairpin turns the bike feels much more precise, and without the need for shifting at awkward moments.

Whoever would have thunk this could happen with such a cheap and simple change?

Best start ever to 2013.

Whoo bloody hoo .... yeee haaaaaa =D

Cheers

PS: I fitted Lennie's InDuct a while ago, so my observations are purely of the changes resulting from fitting the GS runners.

Sounds like a good mod. Where can I get a cheap set so I can bling my bike as a New Years present to her?

Not just good Nookiebear. Great!

I got the Top Gear twinge(s) when accelerating between turns on a downhill section, an uphill section, long sweepers ...

I purchased mine from a 'recycler' rather than BMW (they'd earlier taken the other arm/leg/child for something small).

Have a look at the pics (when posted) to see the fitting process.

Still not sure what "intake runners are".

My bike is standard and runs smoothly from <2000 rpm anyway, with no surging.

I seem to remember this being a popular mod on the old RS bikes, but never heard of it being done on an S before.

This is a popular mod on the RS 1100/1150 bikes (I did it on one) to give more mid range. Never heard of it done to an S though as I did not believe they would fit. Be nice to see pictures of the install.

Presumably, if it's the GS Intake tubes... I certainly did it on my R1100RS and it was well worth doing. The mod was not needed on my R1150RS and would certainly not be needed on the R1100S, even if it were possible to fit them.

So I'm still a bit confused...too much red wine over Christmas!

I'm also confused, [smilie=giveup.gif]
I was told by motorworks that none where suitable for the mod on my R1100S so had to get a Lemmie's in the end,
That's if we are talking about the same thing............... :?:

Hi Ned1,

Well - when I got my 1100S a riding mate told me that the next thing was to see the article on the BMW RT forum, about fitting the longer 1100GS intake choobs to get more midrange torque.

Here'e the url:

www.ibmwr.org/r-tech/oilheads/R11pwmod.shtml

So off I charged but it wasnt until I removed the 1100S tubes (which I'd describe as a bulging cone. pics to come) that the differences between the RT and S dawned on me. Errrk!

Anyway the fitting method I devised is completely reversible so I decided to hurtle on.

I have to confess that when I saw the installed length of the tubes I thought it was never going to work, but logic prevailed since this how the tubes would look in the RT and it works ok, right? With the dyno numbers to back it up.

So that was my factual basis for proceeding.

I didn't speak to anyone about the why's or whynot's 'cos I didn't know anyone to speak to ... harrr ... but I could see the dyno numbers and the job was fairly simple, and I got the result yesterday. :D :D :D

Once I've set up my DropBox a/c you'll see the pics and all will become clear.

BTW: my seat-of-the-pants impression is that the 1100S torque does not drop off as quickly as that of the RT with the GS choobs. Might be a sportier cam in the S.

I've made no code plug changes either.

Meanwhile it's a brilliant 28C riding day here so I'll be gone for a while.

Cheers

After wading thru' the Dropbox instructions, this link link should work. Fingers x-ed.

As it's v.early morning here I haven't yet posted written detail, but you'll get a good idea of the process form the pics.

Back later.

Cheers

PS: another 130 mile run yesterday. No - I'm not imagining the improvements. Unless I had the worst 1100S lemon ever. :-^)

I thought you where taking about air into the airbox,.............
where it seems looking at your photos that you maybe talking air out of the airbox and into the injectors.

Thats right Ned1. Apologies for the confusion.

I've just added a short video clip (part of one I recorded yesterday) where you can hear the exhaust note thru' 1st 2nd and into 3rd, before the wind noise drowns everything. Only revving to 7k.

(I think) you can hear the urgency in the engine as the revs rise.

The rest of the vid was next to useless cos' of camera exposure issues.

Cheers.

Now i can see what you have done i don't think there is enough room in my airbox to get the longer tubes in, but there are a few unmodded bikes out there that may benifit from this mod.
Cheers all Dai

Dai, don't you have a stock 1100S, like mine?
