1100S Centre Stand Bolt Failure

Postby jeznewsome » Sat Oct 12, 2013 4:36 pm

I am sure that others may know this already but while a friend and I were working on his kit car, in our drive, this afternoon he noted that there was a broken pivot bolt on my R1100S that was parked up alongside where we were working. I had not noticed the problem when operating the stand.

Seems, from a quick Google, that this is a common problem particularly on the RHS (where mine had cracked and failed). The bolt effectively fails at the point at which the thread starts in the pivot trunion.

A quick fix; new bolts both side and a new trunion on the RHS as the tail of the failed bolt wasn't for moving

Maybe worth a regular check if you weren't already do this.

Found your thread whilst looking for the torque setting of the rhs bolt. I'm working away from home and do the have any of the info. Could anyone tell me what the torque should be? Ta!

Centre stand to main frame according to manual is 42Nm , presumably both sides.

Nice one, cheers. On tour. Bolt arrived, realised I've no way of putting the bolt in. Carrying a bolt for a few hundred miles now :)
