Starter clutch - R1100S

Postby Motocod » Mon Sep 01, 2014 3:00 pm

Hi all,

A couple of times lately I've had a slight noise when starting the bike, of what sounds like a noisy starter clutch. Hard to describe, but basically makes a bit of a mechanical clonk when I hit the starter.

The bike has only done 17k, so seems a bit low to be experiencing such an issue. Just wondered if this is something I need to keep an eye on, or can easily check?

I only ask as I'm off on a 10 day jaunt round Spain and the Pyrenees in a couple of weeks...

Thanks,

Nik

Hi nick
Had a similar issue with mine when I first got it it looked like the previous owner may have over cranked it at some point,The starter is only held in a couple of bolts, May be worthwhile taking out and getting it benchtested to allay your fears,
Mine did end up seizing and with a new starter in does occasionally make a little clanking sound when engaging hope this helps

As it happens, the previous owner of my bike did fit a new starter, not long before I bought it, so far as I'm aware. The issue only seems very occasional, so I'm not too concerned at present.
