OT: 2007 R1200GS Wheel Flange Recall

Postby damoace » Thu Apr 23, 2015 8:42 pm

Received today (despite the date on the header).

It seems that the rear drive flange on 2007 R12GS's may be prone to failure. Luckily I changed the bike for a new Liquid-Cooled one in November last year.

Even got chitty from DLVA to prove that they know it 'aint mine anymore.

The really exasperating part is that I bought my new GS at my local BMW Motorrad dealer and part-exchanged the bike in question at the same place.

So, the take-away here is that systems which you assume to be inter-connected are clearly not.
R1200GS - 'El Bastardo' - The Exploder.
R1100S BCR - 'Flashart the Misguided Missile'.
KTM 990SMT- 'Scratch' - Hoonery Assured.

I got mine today for my 1200s. Fortunately I had mine repaired a couple of weeks back because parts are in short supply.

They have a lot of bikes to repair. Worldwide I think it was in the order of 300,000.

ditto - I needed to speak to BMW and they didn't have me down as the present owner - I had only had the bike a matter of weeks so wasn't surprised. What did surprise me was that they hadn't amended their system to show Martin was the last owner and yet they've managed to have me down as the new owner and sent me details of the re call

Got mine yesterday for the HP2. Bit of a poor show they send out a recall letter and in the same letter tell you they have no parts

I've already checked the component (following a previous thread by Herb) and all looks OK........I hope

Still haven't got around to sorting the previous recall yet so will kill two birds with one stone when they finally tell me they have the parts.
