Respraying fork legs

Postby victorlaszlo » Fri Jun 03, 2016 10:54 am

Hi all,

Thinking of doing up the fork legs on my R1100S and the paint normally recommended is the Wurth silver spray.

However, at £17 a bottle plus roughly the same for the clear coat is there any other, cheaper, but equally good and similar looking spray that anyone has used? Hammerite perhaps?

Ideally I'd like to find one that looks correct and doesn't require too much prep work or any top coat.

Thanks Victor

Pete.

I like Simoniz wheel silver. It's not too shiny or garish, and (not that it matters here) is also a very good match for silver-painted steel frames. I have used it to touch-up a CBR600 and a VFD1000 frame in the past and if you paint a whole section you'd find it very hard to tell.

And in terms of prep work and top coat, how is it to work with?

Smootherite silver is what i used. I did fork legs and brace with 1 can and then a couple of coats of clear lacquer.
