Postby Britisherspy » Wed Jun 15, 2016 8:25 pm

I'd like to convert my bike I can start on the ss. Does anyone know how to carry out this mod?

You can if it's in neutral, can't you? I'm sure I can with mine - it only cuts out if you put it in gear. Did this change with model year? Mine's a '99.

Should start in neutral on SS. Will cut engine if you try to ride off with stand down...faulty switch probably

It wont start on ss, bikes in neutral, no fuel pump. Kick up ss and fuel pump primes. I've checked the clutch switch - thats fine.

Bikes running, come to a stop and put ss down - bike cuts out.

Is it the ss switch then? Or neutral switch?

Skiddyboxers had this bike before me for 10 years and it never started on the ss according to him.

I'm sure my 02 boxercup would though.

Sounds to me like the SS switch is working but the bike thinks it's in gear.
Does the neutral light work?

Had this problem only to find that the circlip had come off and the sidestand switch was not being operated by the stand. Fitted it back in the correct position (there is a tang that fits into a hole in the sidestand) and it all worked fine. Thats on a 12S not sure if the setup is the same on yours

Mine has always started with the stand down .
From the Service manual . Checking side stand switch function " support the bike with the sidestand up, select any gear, switch on the ignition . Slowly extend the sidestand and watch the neutral light. The neutral indicator should light briefly as you swing out the stand"
I checked my bike and it does this. hth

In the Haynes manual it says:

The side stand switch is part of the safety circuit which prevents or stops the engine running if the transmission is in gear whilst the side stand is down, and prevents the engine from starting if the transmission is in gear unless the side stand is up and the clutch lever is pulled in.

I've checked the ss switch out = it works fine so according to the above- the bike cannot start or run with the ss down - which is what I have.

Are the later bikes different? Mines an 02.

Mine does not do this, if I do this, as soon as you turn the key the fuel pump starts, when you lower the ss, the fuel pump relay clicjs off - you can hear it.

I had this on my R1100RT a few years back - not sure if the R1100S is the same but look here :

Thank you that's exactly what I was looking for. I did something similar on my Ducati 996.
