03' R1100S green fuel light permanently on !

Postby Two Stroke Cat » Wed Mar 29, 2017 1:25 pm

Hi,
another gremlin with the cockpit as I broke down with no fuel.
Fuel light is green and doesn't change when tank is full or empty. :o
Any ideas what to look for?

It should only come on when low on fuel, normally 120 -130 miles from full, issue with sender unit in tank possibly. If I remember correctly it's a float type unit, someone more knowledgeable will be along to confirm hopefully,

Yes, but mine when using it as a commuter in town (London) comes on @ 86! No surprises on a longer ride the other week it still hadn't come on @ 140! My point being i must fix the scooter as this is costing me a 200% more to run a week!

Well,
I've had 161 miles when I run out of fuel.
Will check the connections on the sender unit first before I strip everything down.
How easy is it to replace the sender unit ?

Assuming if its removing the unit from the tank, its not hard but its a pr1ck & its time-consuming... i would say 1/2 day by the time you have fussed about. . .

I am sure Chris Harris has a proper video on youtube but for a 2min summary watch this (but turn sound down): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VDs3YrIZoo

If you are having fun and being a bit heavy with your right wrist, make that 100 miles :D
