Comfort bars..> Moving then above the triple clamp

Postby bilbob » Mon Apr 10, 2017 6:49 pm

Second in the stream of questions...
I've seen it discussed in a number of place as well as here, moving the bars above the TC to relieve some wrist strain.
Easy enough, right? Not if you have a non abs bike from 2001, like me. It seems I need a longer front brake hose...

I can't find out how long the existing one is (without taking it off, and all that entails...) to allow me to order a slightly longer one...

Anyone know how long it is? Or how long I need to order?

cheers

There seems to be so many variations from bike to bike that it's probably best to measure carefully with string / or lightweight cable (front wheel off the deck )

Hmm... this seems to be a sensible idea.
However, I will still hold off in the hope someone knows exactly how long it is, exactly where to order one from, and shows me how to do so without paying anything for it.

Easy right? :D

Assuming you a talking about an 1100s, It's easier two put two single lines to each calliper with a longer banjo bolt on the lever end and do away with the solid pipe work on the fork brace. Gerry B may be able to tell you the length as my old bike was in this configuration when he had it from me, but I think he may have put it back to standard. Mine where hel brake line from a guy in N Ireland about £60. I have a supply of stainless clamps(postage cost only) if you go this route.

This sounds like a plan, as the pipes I'd seen so far were pretty pricey... a front set of HEL hoses for 60 would be more acceptable... And the clamps, are these just to hold the pipes in place I presume?

Clamps screw into the holes where the solid pipe is fixed to the fork brace. As was said in a previous post measure the length with wheel off ground if poss and add about 35-40mm to allow for forks to extend.

You can get venhill lines on eBay in various lengths and then buy the end fittings separate as they screw together rather than swaged on end fittings, might be a better option.

Goodridge do the same set up. Got the ends for mine, just need to buy the hoses. Could i possibly take advantage of your good nature re stainless clamps?

Dave, no problem, I don't have the 1100s anymore so if you measure the diameter of your lines and pm me the size, I will find the suitable clamps, if you are going to Criccieth I can bring them or if not put your address in the pm. I also can get stainless screws if you need them but I can't remember the size. The clamps are stainless and have a soft black rubber protective cover.

I've mailed venhill to ask about the pipes today, so looks like I'm sorted on that.
However first time I've seen the offer of the clamps, and looks like I missed out...

Thanks anyway... :(

Cheers Al
I'll measure hoses at the weekend. Unfortunately I cannot get to Wales again this year because of my shift pattern and another driver off at the same weekend. There's no panic for the clamps as I've just put the BCR on the bike ramp to start tarting it up

Bilbob, I have a few available, pm me the brake line diameter when you get them along with an address and I will get a couple sent. Also screw size, if you need them, the original pipe ones might be long enough, it's been a while since I did mine.
