Shock rebuild question

Postby Anto » Fri Sep 15, 2017 7:56 am

Hi all

I'm interested to know whether it is possible to dismantle a stock front shock to remove the spring. If so, does anybody know whether it is possible to swap a standard spring onto a BMW sport shock? I'm fairly sure the sport shock is longer but I'm not sure if the spring itself is longer (more travel) or if just the shock body is longer.

Reason I ask is that my original shock is getting tired and I have a spare sport shock but find the spring rate too hard.

Cheers

Photograph them both and put up here - we may be able to tell from that.
It all depends upon the length of each damper unit, the free length of each spring (and their spring rate), plus the amount of adjustment for each unit on the pre-load of the spring.
