You should have a service book and an owners manual. The recommended service intervals are given as well as the oil spec.

BTW it is every 6k miles or one year, whichever is first. You can shorten the oil change intervals but unless you use it hard I won't bother.

Sorry for bringing this live again, but having just had a look at the service schedules I feel a bit confused.

I thought it was as simple as a 6k service every 12k miles and a 12k service every 12k miles, alternating, and if you don't reach these mileages in a year then throw in a yearly service in between.

However, I've found 5 different "maintenance schedules" called:

R1200S_6K #00 00 122
R1200S_12K #00 00 128
R1200S_Annual #00 00 155
R1200S_Annual_6K #00 00 125
R1200S_Annual_12K #00 00 131

How do the last 2 maintenance schedules fit in?

Cheers V

For what it costs, I do everything except the spark plugs and brake fluid once a year....plugs and brake fluid are changed every other year. Nice and simple, inexpensive and peace of mind! That's based on my sub-4k miles a year, of course. :)

I do oil and filter every 6 months, valves, plugs etc every year based on around 10,000 a year. I don't think you can change the oil too much. Even after a month it doesn't look the same as when it went in! Easy to work on and if I do it, I know its done.
