What sort of life expectancy do the nylon lined oe throttle cables have ? Anyone had a failure and at what miles ?

I can’t remember this coming up before. Has yours given up?
Mine has time against it but it’s still low mileage.

No mine have done 54k and seem fine, but I was just wondering ?
30 ( ... or 40, ahem ) yrs ago we were regularly replacing Japanese throttle cables, nowadays it doesn't seem to be an issue.

Mine's on 64k, looks like the original.

Anyone else feel that the throttle on these bikes (1100s in my case) is excessively stiff? Still nice and smooth, and returns properly, just feels like excessive effort is needed compared to other bikes I've owned.

85500 miles on mine and still working fine. (Probably snap now!) Just had 3 days hooning around north Wales, amazing place, great roads.

I replaced all 3 of mine at 75k miles as preventive maintenance although they were ok. Should be ok for another 30 k miles..

Yes , a little heavy but I guess i'm used to it after 15 ish years ! Could be worth inspecting the cable junction box although if you're going in that far I'd be prepared to change the cables anyway.

Dont apply an lube down the cables.
It affects the lining and they get stiffer / jam / sticky

Check the bowden box for dust / gunk etc

Dont know about replacing the cables on the 1100S, but on the GS, whilst not really difficult, is fiddaly and takes time
Access on the 1100S probably makes it difficult, fairings and fuel tank etc
