Rear Plastics Removal (R12S)

I need to take the rear plastic/bodywork off my R1200S, and I have removed all the screws and the 2 X clips which hold the two halves together. But there is something still holding them on to the bike, right at the back end where I can't see or feel. The panels are quite loose now, but still held by something.

I've had a look for a diagram or instructions, but no luck so far. What is the secret for disconnecting the rear side plastics from the bike please?

Cheers.

There are 2 rubber grommets that clip over 2 plastic “balls” you need to push the panels directly backwards, gentle pressure as I’m sure the rubber will grip the plastic, spray some silicone on the rubber to ease refitting

Just happened to have my workshop CD-ROM open! It shows these pics and says to note the rear light retaining pin - could it be that? These are the pics for the r/h side, so presumably there's one on t'other side too!

Brilliant! Thanks Pete. It helped to know that I should pull rearward and a squirt of WD40 helped.

The "retaining pin (3) light" is a plastic pin that is part of the light unit, and used for retaining the rear panel. It is not, as confused me thought, a pin for retaining the light. :-)

Thanks again.

P.S. I'm in there to fix my non-working and will be MoT-failing number plate light. I thought it would help to get better access to the wiring plug, but (exhales breath) no joy yet. I'd rather be riding it in this weather - a great touring day!

Glad it helped! :) I've had a look for any info on the no. plate light, but can't find anything unfortunately, sorry.

Yep, cracking day for it today - my RT's got a rear drive oil seal leak, so I'm in dry dock too!

You will find 2 rubber grommets at the leading edge front side fairing also when doing air filter. Pull the whole side panel straight out from the edge around the headlight cowl, it should pop free.
