R1100S worn 'wheel' bearings

At the last MOT my 2004 R1100S (38,000 miles) got an advisory for 'slight free play' in the rear wheel bearing. If I rock the rear wheel top to bottom or fore and aft there is about 1-2 mm of free play at the rim.
Does anyone in the Boxertrix world know which part of the 1100s's wonderful final system is responsible for the free play and what is needed to eliminate it? Is it a fix that could be attempted at home or is it a painful dealer experience?

Thanks in advance, Ian

Hi Ian, at 38,00 miles I would hazard a guess that it's the paralever bearings that need adjusting/ replacing.
The link below is both informative and quite funny, I followed it to sort the bearings on our 1100s' sssss

I've got the fancy socket you see in the video if you want to borrow it.

Cheers,
Rob & Gail :)

Thanks Rob, it's a good video - he's got a great style. So you think it's the paralever bearings themselves rather than anything in the rear drive unit itself?

Cheers

Ian

I’d imagine if it was the paralever bearings - that the hugger (if fitted) - would move the same as the wheel.

If not - it should be the bevel gear bearings?

It’s not much of a deflection, but should be able to rig up something to check?

That video is brilliant!! He's so laid back he's practically horizontal!! I've got the socket too if anyone close by needs to do this job

Ian, I adjusted my paralever free play. It is straightforward to do. I followed instructions from the Clymer book I had. I recollect I had to use a heat gun to free off specific threadlock and then apply more threadlock.

I reckon it is not beyond the scope of a Fly Fifer

Thanks guys, that all makes sense.
I'll have a go at adjusting the paralever bearing free play and see if that solves it. If not can look at bearing replacement and ultimately the bearings in the bevel box, but that will probably NOT be a job for this Fly Fifer at least.

Cheers
