R 1200 s panniers Help with lock removal.

Postby MickB » Fri Jan 18, 2019 9:31 am

I've been lucky enough to find a very nice pair of panniers for my 12s but need to get the lock cylinders out so I can re-code them to fit my bike key.
I have been lent the spare black key by the seller to assist in the process but really need to return this to him rather rapidly.

I have taken out the entire latching/locking mechanism from the case but can see no way forward to separate the cylinder from this assembly.
It all looks like it wants to come apart but before I get too aggressive with the screwdrivers is there a simple trick I am missing to get the cylinder out??

Any pics of the offending part or links would be a great help.

Thanks

Mick

Hi Mick, it is relatively simple but be prepared for a very frustrating time, I removed the lock from my wife small top box (F8r), you’ll have to make a simple tool to hold down the locking “biscuit”. Try googling BMW cylinder lock removal on you tube, there’s several there but I did find one particularly helpful, I’ll try to find a link, and I think it must have taken me more than 6 attempts of varying time but up to 15mins per session  so be prepared and you have 2  but at least after the 1st one you’ll be a dab hand

Good luck
Phil.

These are the instructions from the workshop CD-ROM - sorry they're not very good, I can't work out how to get the pics off the CD onto my PC, so I had to photograph them!
