Starter solenoid

Postby Mr Charrington » Thu Mar 14, 2019 10:18 am

Hallo everybody
Im having starter problems on my 2002 R11S and im looking for a starter solenoid
Here in Greece i cant find any spare Valeo solenoid either any chineese one.
The only options that ihave is to buy the whole starter origial Valeo for 250euro or chineese for about a 100 euros

Does anyone knows if the starter solenoid on the R11S
is compatible with any other cars starter or where can i find one ?
Thank you

No experience of repairing them myself but assuming it is the D6RA75 starter the solenoid part number is listed on this website http://www.largiader.com/tech/valeo/

as
12 41 1 244 607
Plenty of threads on UK Gser if you search with the starter motor model above

Citroen cars mentioned in this thread below but a local auto electrical repair shop would probably be your best bet

The new solenoid comes with a new spring and a new actuation cylinder

It  has the same dimensions and the same weight like the oem from  valeo .

The only difference that i can see
is that the  Valeo actuation cylinder  has a layer of copper on it
and the chinesse one is made of white metall

You can see the deterioration on it and the white metall underneath.
The spring also needed replacement as it had lost  more than the 1/3 of its length .

While waiting for the spares i desided to dismantle the starter completely so i can lube and clean inside of it

Believe me it is very easy to do so !

Here is a video of the prosedure.

Note that i did not remouved  the  front circlip
infront of the engaging gear  .

There is no need to do so unless you want to change the bearing .

You can have accesss to the panetary gear system  with the circlip in place .

I remouved only the circlip that holdes the rotor in place so i could inspect  and clean it .

The diference on how the starter works and hears is huge !

Now if you are reading this and you are not sure
if the problem is your solenoid or is something else
here is a nice video that worked for me .

Now if  you are reading this and you have not any  starting problem
and your bike is running just fine ......
just watch the following video and start to move your body . :blackeye:
