R1200S Fuel Pump Controller Failure

My R12S recently would start but then stall again, repeatedly. The GS-911 indicated error code 10168 - 'Electric Fuel Pump System Faulty ... the fault is currently present'.

I have just replaced the Fuel Pump Controller (FPC) after diagnosing it's failure and all is now ok again. Seems these failures have been more common on R1200GS. This following link was most useful in the diagnosis, in particular how to remove and bypass the FPC to test the pump (which so happened to be still working fine): https://advrider.com/f/threads/r1200gs-fuel-pump-failure.57153/page-2

My complete Fuel Pump module was only replaced in Jun 2015 by BMW as part of their safety recall campaign for the fuel Pump outlet flange issue (cracking) and has only travelled 7k kms since. It had the silver diecast FPC (reported as superseded) and not the later black power coated FPC, which is reported as more reliable … we'll see!

Btw the FPC is an easy replacement & could be changed or bypassed on the side of the road with a few tools and a bypass lead if held. I’ve now used the plug from the old FPC to fabricate a bypass lead for future use if required.

I’ve also removed the rubberised rear seal of the old FPC and a burn mark is obvious on the PCB, see here https://www.flickr.com/gp/139831246@N08/V6UXf7
