Slipping the S

In the Bits'n bobs section I'm looking for an aftermarket silencer to replace the blown original on my R1100S.

I'm trying to work out the easiest way to remove/replace it.
Looks like I might have to dismantle the pipes from where the header meets the catalytic converter (I've actually got straight through pipes which have replaced the cat)

Just wondering if it's possible (or advisable) to remove the R1100S slip-on silencer by simply unbolting the silencer clamp and somehow wiggling it off?

That's how mine comes off. It hangs on two rubbers and the clamp. The only way to remove it is slide it backwards.

Cheers, thanks for your reply.
Didn't quite follow though - do you just have to loosen the clamp and slide the silencer backwards?
Or do you have to do some dismantling of the exhaust system first?

Just undo the clamps and slide backwards, might need to “unstick” the bushes or spray some lube on them.

That’s how mine came off but they can be really tight on the rubber bushes. I sprayed loads of lube on an still needed a persuasion tool

Tapped the silencer with a hammer to try to loosen it for removal.....
And......
It broke off at the point where it had blown - the welded joint where the inlet pipe meets the silencer.
So now I have most of the old silencer removed but the slip-on section won't budge.
I've removed the clamp and have tried to pry open the slit on the slip-on section but it won't move at all.....
Any ideas of how I can release the slip-on pipe?

loads of lube on the bushes, see if you can get a very thin screwdriver in where the bushes are and then even more lube and a block of hard wood on the circular parts over the bushes and hit it!!

proper Releasol into the joint - for 24hrs

wrap a bag of frozen peas (or bag of wet-ice) around the male section, 4" down from the joint. Heat up the Female section same distance, using a hot air gun or gas blowlamp (maybe the one you use for creme brulees  )

Try to twist them as you separate.

prying the slots can have the detrimental effect of expanding the male section over a lot of the circumference.

Thanks to everyone for your tips.
I finally managed to remove the broken pipe.
This was down partially to lube, but probably more down to hefty wielding of the persuasion tool......

More problems when I came to fit the new (well 2nd hand) silencer - it was reluctant to slip on fully.
In the end I sanded off all the residual, burnt on gunk and applied some graphite grease that I've had in the garage since my Triumph days of the 1970s.
With a bit more help from the trusty persuasion tool it all slipped on OK.

This was definitely not easy......

Think the problem was the stainless straight through pipe that replaced the catalytic converter.
Maybe it had a slightly larger diameter than the original?
Maybe the stainless/mild steel interface promoted corrosion?
Dunno....

Anyway my silencer is fitted and working well.

Thanks again for all the very welcome advice.. :)
