Fairing mounted mirror

Postby Steve h » Wed Sep 23, 2020 1:24 pm

I stupidly managed to let my Mamola 1100s fall on it's side whilst cleaning it in the workshop today. No real damage (bloody heavy to pick back up, at 65 I'm not getting any stronger) But the fall did manage to break the R side mirror glass. So, does anyone have a glass or a tatty mirror, I don't think the side matters as the glass is the same shape in both sides. Crazy money for a new one and been unable to locate a used one. I may have to resort to trying to shape one from a car mirror.

Thanks for any help or advice.

Try searching the posts - I'm sure in the past someone got a new glass from somewhere like Halfords (I may be wrong - again!! but worth a go)

Found a company who can cut to size for £12. I'll let you know.

When you have your glass cut to size take the mirror and put the plastic end housing into very hot (as in near boiling) water. This will cause the housing to expand and you can pop the glass in quite easily. You have just about no chance of getting it in otherwise. You might want to get the glazier to grind a bevel on the edges to ease this fitting.

There's a pair of mirrors on ebay at the moment

This is the right hand one

Although at that price I think I would look at replacing the glass first

BLOODY HELL!!!! I've just checked the price for one mirror!! Admittedly it was a Lithuanian site but they're almost 180 each. I'm sure I paid less than that for a pair

Cut out a stencil from old mirror, send it here: https://www.cardoormirrors.com/

I did this about 4 years ago, £24 for two as i recall.

Note: you will need heat the plastic up to remove.. but your better than me if you manage to get them out without breaking (or in your case, the damage is done.

I actually ordered two mirrors (just in case) from them a couple of days ago, still £24 for the two. It is a job I've done before, so hopefully should be OK.

The two mirrors I ordered arrived yesterday, just popped the mirror stem in the oven for 10mins at 180. Mirror popped straight in no problem and fairly snug now it's cooled.

Car door mirrors UK....send them a profile, they send you back the mirror.
