Harpic - exhaust cleaner

Postby templen » Tue Nov 03, 2020 5:17 pm

Having had many bikes over the years, I've used the magic Harpic household cleaner to clean the exhaust downpipes, with spectacular results. NEVER leave it on for to long though.

Has anyone had user experience using it on an R12s ?

Thanks.

Tried it myself and it works ok. Doesn't last long though so now just leave the pipes as a badge of honour

Said it many times, if you want to keep the pipes silver, you'll spend more time polishing than riding -they do look good when polished though

I used this on my 12 s and I thought the results were spectacular. Both the above comments are valid, ie don't leave it on too long and the pipes will discolour with use. That being said the down pipes have, so far, gone a fetching shade of yellow/gold, the pipe from the collector to the silencer has remained shiny with little if any discolouration.

After the bleach I finished off with normal solvol and some rags. I didn't bother with the solvol for stainless steel mainly because it wasn't in the garage.
I did the pipes by hand and only used a dremel with a polishing disc on some particularly stubborn stains around pipe joins/welds.

Hope this is useful.

Google Polishing Shop - they do a copper wire brush that you could rub across your face it's that soft. Use a little Solvol and the wire brush in a drill and final polish with a cloth - USE A FACE MASK!! or you will be coughing and have black snot!!
