Play at top yolk? Ball joint, bearing or both?

The R1100S has recently developed some play at the top yolk.
Is it more likely to be the ball joint, the bearing or a combination ot the 2?
Tempted to just order both parts and replace them regardless.
Also, is there an easy method to remove the ball joint nut?
Thanks

There is no bearing on the R11s , just the upr and lwr balljoint. I've never had to remove mine yet so no help to you . Maybe just try re torquing the small nut (on the wishbone side ,) I'm sure over the years a couple on here found that sorted it.

If you’re removing the ball joint heat it up first

I got one of these tools to help loosen/tighten the top nut on the ball joint as you also need to hold the ball of the joint with an allen key at the same time:-

Check first that the nut hasn't started coming undone. They are fitted with threadlock but if it's been off and back on again it can work loose.

I didn't replace the whole ball joint I just needed to replace the rubber dust bellows.

Cheers Pete, it was just that. But we took it all apart and checked it over anyway.
Seemed to do up nice and tight with my cordless impact driver.
I'll keep an eye on it.
Slightly disconcerting the way the fork lowers and uppers seperate with nothing holding them together, ie a C clip, like a conventional fork!!!

If it works loose again Rufus stick some threadlock on it. That's what I had to do.
