service due warnings on dash

Postby boxerscott » Tue Sep 12, 2023 11:09 pm

So today, first ride on my 1250 r and a mot since dumping it at our eldests last October. Service due reminder on dash (I`d forgotten about the fact that it had been there for the last 3k miles) Anyone bought the aftermarket plug in diagnostic interface and app? I can see from the Tube that stateside they can be both bought collectively for $130

I do not know what causes me less sleep, booking bike in to bmw dealer for a selected service from the "menu" or fearing a stand off with apps and smartphones :(

Chris
Brought a GS911 some years ago - tad expensive but makes checking the bike easy and can re-set the service light and re-configure other bits without having to visit a dear / workshop.

Hi,

I use the Motoscan app on an android phone together with an obd2 dongle on a cable and it works great! Much cheaper option and I am very happy with it, I can reset the service light, clear codes and even test things.

Search the YouTube’s for more info on what it can do.

Mark, which dongle are you using? Aware of this kit https://www.bmdiag.co.uk/motoscan-bmw-motorcycle-diagnostic-kit or have you managed to find a cheaper option that is fully functional?

Hi Jez,

Yes that’s the one, the Unicarscan2100.

I had bought a cheap one on eBay for £10 but found out that didn’t do all the functions and could brick your ecm!

Most of what it can do I watched on the YouTubes, The Old Mechanic channel.

I seem to recall I bought the cable from Amazon though and it’s not as long as the one you showed on the link, but that was because I had bought the cheapie first.

Also paid for the full fat version on the app, but if you only want to reset service lights then it’s free on the app.

Regards Mark.

I pay the guy who does my MOT an extra tenner and he resets mine at the same time.
