Laser Exhaust causes vibes !!

Postby plivez » Wed Jul 25, 2007 4:36 pm

I recently installed a full Laser Exhaust System on my 1999 R1100s. The result was a substantial increase in vibes, which after a period becomes annoying.

I have now replaced the original silencers but kept the Y piece and find that it is a lot smoother.

My mate also has the Laser system and the vibes to go with it. Any suggestions? Is the increase in vibes just to be expected?

Did you have the silicon rubber insert in the can mounting brackets?

Just put a full Remus system on with no change in vibs.
Don't see why your Laser should be any different. :?
Are the pipes touching the bodywork anywhere at all? Have a careful check around and tweek as necessary. 'Tis all I can think of!

Yes, have the silicon inserts, mounted and then remounted it. Are you sure there is no increase in vibes at all? The vibes are exactly in sync with the exhaust note / pulse.

Laser Vibes!

Assuming there are no mechanical vibes from new exhaust parts touching somewhere, as mentioned by others, it would be best to check the balance of the inlet manifold flows as any previous imbalance may be exaggerated by the new exhaust. Have fitted the same Laser system on mine and had no vibe problems, but did have to tweak the mixture settings and subsequently the balance after fitting.

Thyanks for the info. :)

There is the usual vibes I would expect, but at 4 - 5000 rpm (80-90mph)
I find the vibes become enough to numb my right hand in about 20mins.
Are you saying that this is not normal?

Where do I find the best info re the balance / mixture settings?

The following Cat Code Thread sounds like a possible solution. Is it safe to experiment with different colour plugs? Where do I buy them?

I've searched a few more threads. I see that the plug is just a jumper. Can I safely experiment, jumping between the various connections?
