Rear Shock Query

Postby SonnyJim » Tue Jan 29, 2008 7:11 pm

Can anyone give me advice about my rear shock please.
I bought my R1100s about a year ago (radically different from any bike I'd previously owned) and I really love it. It was advertised as having a sport package(?). The engine is black and it came with a Vandelinde exhaust.
The rear shock looks like a standard unit but unlike any other I've seen the spring is yellow not blue.
The shock is pretty rusty and needs changing. I can lay my hands on a standard shock as a stand by until I can get a better quality shock.
Does anyone know if the yellow spring is a different length or rating as obviously the handling will be affected.
Any help gratefully accepted.

The sports shock is different. Different length and different stroke. I wouldn't exchange the sports shock for a normal one unless you replace both.

Thanks for the info Gijs, saved me making a costly mistake.
Looks like I'll have to get a few more miles out of my rear shock.
Hopefully a new one will be on the cards later in the year.
Presumably makes like WP etc would make a shock thats compatible or adjustable to suit.
Once again many thanks.
Clarke.

Hyperpro also make shocks for the R1100S. I have a set (F & R) fitted to my bike and they are superb compared to standard fitment.
