Hi,

Has anyone done the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland (or parts of it). Thinking of next year and would appreciate some info on it, best parts, which way round (clockwise or anticlockwise) hotels, fuel stops, eatery stops, places not too miss etc etc. Probably looking at 5-7 day trip.
Travelling from Holyhead to Dublin and return.
Cheers,
Bob

Hi Bob
I did part of it a few years ago with my daughter, started at Sligo and followed the coast down to Kinvara before returning to Dublin

It was OK but left me a bit disappointed in comparison to the Highlands of Scotland

Thanks Steve.
Yes the NW coast of Scotland is the place to go but we fancied something a bit different next year having done most of the west coast and a lot of the east coast of Scotland over many years (just like you!) In fact we are off to Ballachulish in May and then Inverness in September so I thought maybe just try this WAW thing folks are going on about.
We'll see (and keep you posted)
Bob

Living in Dublin , I've done bits of it as day trips while travelling to photo rally points . I'm not sure if 5 days would be enough to do the whole thing , depending on the time of year, tour buses etc the roads wouldn't be as flowing as Scottish ones.
Killary Harbour in Westport is good (obviously all relying on the weather) Connemara / Galway / Roundstone / Clifden . I recently did a day trip on my V Strom 250 to the Galway Roundstone area visiting the Alcock & Brown crash site / Marconi Radio station without using motorways and clocked up around 400 miles in the day ...

Thanks for the hints & tips, Nigel, shall follow them up. Wasn't thinking of doing the whole route just part of it hence 5-7 days. Thought after Dublin we'd head west and then possibly do a loop south following the coast and ending in Cork. What do you think?

Sounds like a good idea , there's Tralee the Blennerville windmill if you're into that sort of thing , the Conor pass ( i've cycled that one ...) the Ring of Kerry, Killarney ( slightly off the WAW) and the Beara peninsula ( which includes the Dursey Island cable car if you're brave  and if it's still in service)

As above it's very easy to overestimate how far you can travel in a day so be prepared to take your time and go with the flow.

Thanks again, Nigel, I'll put them on the list to check out.
Seen a vid of the Conor Pass looks a tad hairy at times
