As far as I know you just stick an accessory plug on your charger and shove it in the socket...

Seems to work on mine...

I think you would be better off putting fly leads direct to the battery tuck them up under the panels when not needed then pull down to charge

Just my way of doing things dai

+1 also.

All 4 bikes in our garage have those battery connectors hidden behind their side covers.

If you have an 05, can't you remove the rubber cover on the charging point, and clip the positive lead to this, and the other to the frame? It's simple, and works for me.

I have been maintaing / charging through the auxilliary socket for the last 5 years (same battery) The centre contact is the live.

But that socket is exposed to all kinds of muck and crud also you dont know how good the wireing[another easy word] is untill you press the starter button and just get a click when you plug a accesory into the socket you know if it's all good as it will work or not
not so with a charger as with a bit of corrosion in there the charger will show a charge but nothing will get through

Off now my cam box has arrived Dai

Sorted the rotten wiring and tired connector last summer. The Optimate has been doing its thing via the socket since then. No probs.

Also looking for something similar on a 2000 R1100S. Apparently the connector I have would mate to a 83 30 0 402 343 (connector and fly lead).

surely there must be a cheaper 'alternative connector available? Or perhaps I will just get the soldering iron out to sort out a Tamiya connector for the optimate.

The socket has a cover on it the inside is a clean as a Whistle the bike is 14 years old and it charges. Now what else would you like to worry about.
