My new toy...

I'm just embarking on a photographic course (NVQ level 4) and on the recommendation of a professional photographer mate of mine (he's in charge of Photo/Graphics section at RAFC Cranwell) I began the search for a small, compact but very high quality camera - the sort to carry around for 'chance' photos. Better than lugging a load of DSLR gear around.

Anyway, ended up with one of these little beauties:

I'm not going to pretend that it'll replace my EOS 7D but it's right up there in terms of picture quality. :)

I really like these retro style compact system cameras.

Sadly, I struggle to justify the cost of one.

That photo could not have been taken using the camera in the photo!

If I go through all my photos's my best results were from some old Russian camera that I borrowed from a friend to take to Berlin with me when I was in the Army back in the 80's.
It even had a seperate light meter.
No pictures I've taken before or since are of the same quality.
Go figure

Now you just need a leather camera case, lanyard to hang it round your neck, sandles, socks and a beer belly for the retro look to be complete.

Back to the Fuji...

Did a couple of comparison pictures yestrerday, using my EOS 7D with Canon 24-105L against the Fuji X100.

Result?

Whilst the Canon is more versatile (as you'd expect a DSLR to be), the Fuji just takes better pictures.
