I always used it when I had mine, as long it was the right spec I used whatever was on offer. As long as you change at the right intervals and use quality filters it will be fine, it's an old design, doesn't need hi tech oil.

I found the mineral stuff burned up easily. Silcolene super 4 lasts well though.

I use Castrol Power1 in my 1150: -

It started badly, it tailed off a little in the middle and the less said about the end the better, but apart from that it was excellent.

Castrol 20W/50. Its what BMW (used to) recommend, so I go along with that. I don't see much sense trying to save a few quid given the limited miles I do. Annual service, oil and filter, £50ish from Opie. Job done.

I used Bardahl 20 w 50 for years but in an effort to rationalise oil stocks in a multi bike garage i'm currently using 10w 40 fully synthetic (Eurol brand) and I think it's better then the 20w 50....

Chaps...
Might be a stupid question, but should I be using a bike specific oil in my r11s? I'm guessing being dry clutch, normal car stuff would also do?
I have some 15/40 left over from my car, any reason not to use that??

Ta.
