Engine bars or covers

Postby hobbit » Sun Oct 08, 2017 6:20 am

Hi All

the GT and trumpet have both been traded in for a GS, now the question is should I get engine bars or just the small protector covers, they are both roughly the same price.

I had a mate who dropped a GS a few years ago and managed to break engine casing, he had the full bars.

Thoughts please.

Cheers

Gavin

Check Nippy Norman's - they have some sort of half cover maybe made by Art - think that's the way I would go for the reason you stated. I have bars on my GS but they won't be going on the next one

Covers for sure. Bars may help but the covers are complimentart.
Mine came with Hepco and Becker bars ( i think they were) and after a few drops were so twisted and the mount tabs broken that welding didnt fix them.
The bmw bars have suoposesly a reputarion for breaking legs.

My GS had H&B bars on it when I bought it. They're good if you think the bike might often be on its side as they make it easier to pick up and stop any part of the bike touching down. Negative points are they made the bike a few inches wider each side which when filtering in central London isn't what you want! I replaced them for some fairly solid head covers which I think look better and have proved good at protecting from tip overs, the only negative being the bike can easily roll a bit further, causing a bit more damage and making it harder to pick up.
