In their infinite wisdom, BMW won't supply replacement straps for the small and large 'softbag' tailpacks - they expect you to buy a new bag (min £140!!) instead! Has anyone got any lying around that I could buy? Longshot, I know!
I've managed to find the type of sidelock buckles that BMW use, I just need to find a supplier who doesn't want me to buy 1000 of them at a time - assuming I can get hold of some, it'll be easy enough then to knock up some straps myself.

try eBay Pete. I got some buckles that match the BMW tank bag on my K so I could make a shoulder strap. There's a lot of the plastic buckles on there, and the strapping too.

Hi Steve.
I've been on there on and off all this pm, I've given myself a headache!
I had a mail earlier from the company in Birmingham (the only one I could find) that deals direct with YKK - they can get me 100....minimum order.....of the 25mm 'Hammerloc' buckles that BMW use for around £40 delivered, better than a new bag I suppose, and I could always try to flog a few off!

Drop me a PM with pics of the buckles / catches etc and size of webbing strap.
I have just salvaged about 20 from a large temporary garage and they may fit, or you can have enough to make up new straps.

Hi John.
I can't see how to PM a pic! Here they are though - the female part of the buckle is permanently attached to the bag, as you can see, so any male part I get hold of will have to fit that.

Pete, had the same problem, in the past I have new clips/straps that are used on rucksacks as these seem more universal and had them grafted onto bike bags by a cobbler fairly cheaply.

Hi Al.
I think that'll be the fall-back position, if needed! Somebody's just offered me a couple of straps over on UKGSer, he only lives 4 or 5 miles away, so sorted for now - I do like the odd little problem to solve though, so the search continues!

Al.
I bought a nice hipster wax jacket, same material supplier that barbour use. Cheap zip involved, Stitched irregularly into the closing seams so it snagged, really pissed me off, should have checked it at the dealer before I purchased, however bought a proper zip and got local seamstress to un pick and stitch in evenly new zip.
Sometimes one has to be more practical/independant about finding a solution than relying on manufacturers to be arsed with anything outside warranty.
