Re: R1100S - Intermitent Neutral Light

A trick I have used when taking apart things with springs and ball bearings in is to do it in a large transparent plastic bag.
Anyithing which flys out is captured without a 3 hour workshop search.

Well done that man.
I do enjoy it when a good solution is found for little or no cash.

Re: taking matters into our own hands

Ha, so you've come round to the thinking that paying a fortune to an airline to go to the other side of the world for sandy beaches and risk getting skin cancer is not worth it. I now have 3 mates who won't bother renewing their passport when they run out and that they want to travel and support bus...

Re: Gearbox oil R1100S

Intrigued as to why a gearbox oil could "upset" a modern emission system?
Engine oil yes, as the crankcase and head breathers would be routed back into the intake, but gearboxes aren't.

Re: 190/50/17 on a 5.5 inch rim....Certain death??

I ran a 180 on the 5" rim and the handling was a bit odd but could live with it. Went into Blue Bell at Crewe for a service and was told to change it before the mot as it would be a fail. Paid yer money already, but your choice. I would stick with a 180 on the wider rim if it were me, but then ...

Re: Battery, voltage regulator or...?

I agree with Fuzz, change the battery - it'll be collapsing internally.
You should only get 14.4 to 14.5 volts on charge for a brand new one.
That's where I would go (Tayna) too - excellent choice, prices and service.

Re: clear cylinder head covers

A fully plastic motor was built in the late'70's called a Polimotor and raced in the '80's with a few top 10 finishes - google it.
IIRC it was all plastic apart from the piston crowns, crankshaft and cylinder sleeves and half the weight of the standard all metal Ford Pinto it was based on.

Re: Wanted - Front and rear shocks

Ohlins have stopped making the R1100S specific units but you may be able to obtain the parts through a dealer who can then convert a near similar unit to the R1100S specs. I was told this by two Ohlins dealers (Harris & SSR) last year when I wanted to modify a GSXR1000 unit to fit. Cost was proh...

2021 First Ride

First time out on the old 11S since August last year with the Wrexham contingent. Surprisingly hot - I had to wear my airflow jacket and pants. Took me 30 minutes to find all my riding gear as its all in different boxes since I moved house and can't find anything. Really nice to get out on the bike ...

Re: Lithium Battery - Long Term Experience Anyone?

"They don't need a different charger unless it is also a battery 'conditioner' (a la Optimate etc)." Now that is a surprising statement - the battery chemistry is radically different in Li Fe, Li Ion and Li Po cells compared to Lead Acid types. In my extensive modelling use of Lithium batt...
